How much does a freestanding bathtub cost is usually the first question before a bathroom renovation, and the answer depends mainly on the material: prices range from around €600 in acrylic to more than €3,000 in natural stone. This guide brings together orientative market prices by material for Spain, the exact price table for every METROPOLE bathtub, and what else to budget for, such as the tap and installation. Prices updated September 2026.

The short answer

In Spain, a freestanding bathtub costs between around €600 and more than €3,000, depending on the material: acrylic, from around €600 up to around €2,000; solid surface or engineered stone, from €1,650 to €3,000; cast iron on legs, from around €1,600; natural stone, marble, wood or concrete, from around €3,000 and up to more than €10,000 for one-off pieces. At METROPOLE, every bathtub is sanitary acrylic with a double wall and costs between €568 and €1,218, VAT included and with free delivery to your door: a price that sits in the entry to mid tier of the acrylic segment.

Freestanding bathtub prices by material

Material Guide price What drives it
Acrylic / reinforced acrylic From around €600; typically €750-1,100; top of range up to €2,000 Light, mouldable material, made in series
Solid surface / mineral resin (engineered stone) From €1,650; typically €2,000-2,300; up to €3,000 Seamless continuous surface, thicker walls
Cast iron on legs Usually starts at around €1,600, up to around €2,500 Solid enamelled piece, very heavy and durable
Natural stone, marble, wood or concrete From around €3,000; marble typically €6,000-9,000; made-to-order pieces above €10,000 Natural or bespoke material, each piece is unique

Acrylic. The most common material in entry and mid-range freestanding bathtubs. It is light, easy to mould and holds water temperature well; most freestanding bathtubs on the market, including the most affordable ones, are acrylic or fibreglass-reinforced acrylic.

Solid surface or mineral resin. Also called engineered stone, it is a seamless continuous surface with thicker walls than acrylic and a warmer feel. It is more labour-intensive to make, which shows in the price.

Cast iron. These are enamelled cast-iron tubs on legs: very heavy, very durable, with a classic look. Supply in Spain is limited and prices vary by manufacturer.

Natural stone, marble, wood or concrete. These are bespoke or very short-run pieces, effectively one of a kind, with material and production costs well above the rest.

What makes the price vary

At market level, the price of a freestanding bathtub depends mainly on these factors:

  • The material. As above, acrylic, solid surface, cast iron or natural stone are the main driver of price differences between bathtubs.
  • Size and capacity. More litres of water generally means more material, and generally a higher price.
  • The installation type. Freestanding, semi-freestanding (with one side against the wall) or built-in change the manufacturing process, and with it the price.
  • The finish. Gloss white, matte or colour; a matte finish usually costs more for the same model.
  • Hydromassage. Adding air or water jets raises the price noticeably compared with the same bathtub without hydromassage.

Within the METROPOLE range, all in white sanitary acrylic, these same factors explain the difference between €568 and €1,218:

  • Size. HUDSON 150 (€568) and HUDSON 170 (€668) share the same design and drain; the €100 difference reflects the larger size and capacity, from 189 to 240 litres.
  • Type. VENEZIA, with its Koller air hydromassage system, is the most expensive model in the range, at €1,218.
  • Finish. HUDSON 170 goes from €668 in gloss white to €918 in matte, same model, same size.
  • Height and design. AZUL, with a taller profile (69 cm against 57-58 cm across the rest of the range), sits at €768.

What else to budget for

The bathtub price is not the only cost in a bathroom renovation. It is worth budgeting for:

  • The tap. A basic floor-standing (column) tap costs between €150 and €500; branded ones, between €800 and €1,500, and some models go above €3,400. Depending on the bathtub model, a wall-mounted tap can also be fitted.
  • Installation. A plumber typically charges between €25 and €40 an hour. Connecting a new freestanding bathtub, with no building work, usually costs around €220 in labour, excluding VAT and materials. Replacing an existing bathtub costs between €400 and €800 in labour, 15-20% more in Madrid and Barcelona. Switching from a built-in bathtub to a freestanding one, with building work, a new floor and drain, usually comes to around €2,500 all in.
  • The drain. It is included in the price on every METROPOLE bathtub; worth checking if buying elsewhere.

Worked example for a HUDSON 170 (€668), with a floor-standing tap and basic installation, no building work:

Item Estimated price
HUDSON 170 bathtub €668
Floor-standing tap (entry-mid range) around €300
Installation (connection, no building work) €220-400
Guide total around €1,190 to €1,370

This is an illustrative example: the real cost varies by city, the tap model chosen, and whether extra building work is needed.

How much does it cost to install a freestanding bathtub?
