Frequently asked questions

What is a freestanding bathtub?
It is a standalone bath that does not sit against the wall, designed as the centrepiece of the bathroom. It brings a sculptural, design-led look and can be positioned in the middle of the room or alongside a wall.
What sizes do freestanding bathtubs come in?
METROPOLE freestanding bathtubs are available in lengths such as 150 and 170 cm. The 170x80 cm is the most popular for its balance of comfort and space; for smaller bathrooms the 150 cm is the better fit. Exact dimensions are listed on each product page.
Which freestanding bathtub is best for a small bathroom?
For small bathrooms we recommend 150 cm models or back-to-wall bathtubs, which sit against the wall and take up less room. Always measure the free space around the bath, a minimum of 10 to 15 cm, for comfortable installation and a clean finish.
What are freestanding bathtubs made of?
Our freestanding bathtubs are made from high-quality sanitary-grade acrylic, a material that is warm to the touch, hard-wearing and retains the water temperature better than steel. The white finish is durable, easy to clean and will not yellow with use.
How is a freestanding bathtub installed?
Installation requires an accessible water supply and waste in the floor or the wall, depending on the model. The bath is levelled, the waste is connected and the base is sealed. We recommend using a professional plumber to guarantee a watertight finish.
What is the difference between a freestanding and a back-to-wall bathtub?
A freestanding bath is entirely standalone and finished on all four sides; a back-to-wall bath has one flat side so it can sit against the wall. Back-to-wall is ideal when you want the look of a freestanding bath but have less space to work with.
How much does a freestanding bathtub cost?
The price varies with the size, the design and whether whirlpool jets are included. Current pricing for each model is shown on its product page. METROPOLE sits in the premium design bracket with excellent value for money.
How do you clean an acrylic bathtub?
Clean the bath with a soft cloth, warm water and a mild soap or a cleaner made specifically for acrylic. Avoid abrasive scourers and any product containing solvents or ammonia, as these can scratch the surface. Rinsing and drying regularly keeps the shine.
