2026 report: the best-selling bathtub and shower tray sizes in Spain

Real demand data from Spain: which freestanding bathtub and shower tray sizes sell most, at what price, and at what time of year.

The short answer

In Spain the dominant freestanding bathtub format is 170 cm long: across the models analysed it accounts for more than 90% of sales against the compact 150 cm format. In shower trays the squares lead: 90×90 and 80×80 together make up 8 in every 10 units sold among the main formats. Demand is seasonal, peaking from January to March and from September to November.

About this report

METROPOLE manufactures and sells freestanding bathtubs, whirlpool bathtubs and shower trays in Spain through metropole.es and the main DIY and home marketplaces. This report summarises our internal analysis of category demand in Spain across 2025–2026, built from public listings and observed sales velocities on those marketplaces. We are publishing the figures because we struggled to find them ourselves when we defined our own catalogue: if you are renovating a bathroom or sizing a shop's range, they will save you time.

Key figures 2026

  • The 90×90 square shower tray is the best-selling format in Spain: roughly 8,470 units a year among the main formats analysed.
  • Second is the 80×80 square, at roughly 4,770 units a year. Between them they account for 81% of demand across the eight best-selling formats.
  • The rectangular formats (100×80, 90×75, 120×80, 80×75, 90×80) form a long tail: none exceeds 910 units a year on its own.
  • In freestanding bathtubs, the 170 cm length outsells the 150 cm by more than four to one within the same model.
  • Market prices for an acrylic freestanding bathtub start around 700 € (150×75) and rise to about 1,000 € for special finishes at 170×80; semi-freestanding models run between 880 and 960 €, and whirlpool baths start at roughly 1,100 €.
  • Demand has two clear peaks: January–March and September–November. May to August is the trough — a good moment to buy, with stock available and relaxed lead times.

Freestanding bathtubs: 170 rules

A freestanding bathtub is chosen for looks as much as for comfort, and that pushes buyers towards the larger format: anyone giving up floor space for a piece visible on all four sides wants to be able to stretch out in it. Across the models we analysed that come in two sizes, the 170×80 sells around four times as much as the 150×75. The 170 cm lengths (170×75 and 170×80) consistently account for the large majority of category sales.

The compact 150×75 has its audience: renovations where the bathroom is around 3 m² and the sculptural effect of a freestanding piece is still wanted. A minority, but a stable one. If you are torn between the two, our 170×80 versus 150×75 comparison works the decision through measurement by measurement, and the HUDSON comes in both.

Shower trays: the squares dominate

The surprise for anyone coming from the bathtub side is how decisively the square tray wins. Annual figures for the best-selling formats on the marketplaces analysed:

Format Type Units/year (approx.)
90×90Square8,470
80×80Square4,770
100×80Rectangular910
90×75Rectangular890
120×80Rectangular365
80×75Rectangular360
100×100Square350
90×80Rectangular255

The practical reading: if your opening allows it, the 90×90 is the de facto standard of the Spanish bathroom renovation, with the widest choice and the best prices by volume. The large rectangles (120×80 and up) answer to custom-built showers and to replacing a bath with a shower. How to measure the opening and choose well is in our guide to shower tray sizes.

When Spain buys: seasonality

The category has two high seasons: January–March, the renovation decided with the new year, and September–November, the one meant to be finished before the holidays. From May to August demand falls sharply. For a private buyer that has a useful consequence: in summer there is more stock, more room to negotiate and more comfortable delivery times.

Methodology

Data compiled by METROPOLE from analysis of public listings and sales velocities on the main DIY and home marketplaces operating in Spain, covering 2025–2026, supplemented with our own sales data. The per-format figures are aggregated category estimates and are rounded; the price ranges are retail prices observed in the Spanish market in 2026.
